Yummiest Baked Feta Pasta

You have seen the feta and tomato spaghetti trending on social media, whether you're a frequent TikTok user or an occasional Instagram user. It has a fascinating past. 2018 saw the publication of a spaghetti dish by Finnish food blogger Tiiu Piret (@tiiupiret) that used prosecco, baked feta, and tomatoes. In 2019, Jenni Häyrinen (@liemessa), a different Finnish blogger, posted her condensed version of the recipe on her blog and Instagram with the hashtag #uuifetapasta. (Subsequently, it appears that feta sales in Finland grew by 300 percent. The dish was eventually mentioned to the American culinary influencer MacKenzie Smith (@grilledcheesesocial) by a friend who had a Finnish boyfriend. She shared a translation of the well-known dish on her blog and Instagram in January 2021, which caused it to become popular in the US.

It's simple to understand why the recipe has become so well-known, this is the basic premise: Put a block of feta, tomatoes, and a good amount of olive oil in a pan and bake them until the tomatoes are soft. Then, combine the mixture with pasta and fresh basil. Depending on whose recipe you follow, there are a few slight variations. In contrast to Smith, who uses crushed red pepper flakes that can be found in most pantries, Hayrinen's recipe requires the use of fresh chile pepper. Other variations involve the garlic, which is either roasted in big chunks with the rest of the sauce's ingredients or minced and added fresh at the very end (stirred into the hot pasta and allowed to wilt or carefully placed on top of the pasta just before serving).

Any route taken will undoubtedly lead to a tasty destination!

Note:

➡Save half cup of pasta water, you can add it if you think the baked feta pasta dish requires additional sauce. Additionally, it will make the sauce generally smoother and creamier.

Use feta cheese, not crumble! In this dish, block feta is the only acceptable option. The entire block will hold up much better to roasting without that powder coating.

Don't use too little olive oil. This is necessary because we don't want dry pasta; we want a thick sauce.

Give the tomatoes plenty of space. Don't be skimpy on tomatoes. To counteract the tang, they add a lot of fresh taste and a touch of sweetness

The ideal texture for pasta is just al dente. It will soak up the warm sauce when combined with it and become slightly more tender.

When baking the feta and tomatoes, try to time the completion of the pasta to coincide with that time. This keeps it from merely sitting and sticking together while also ensuring that the pasta is added warm.

The pasta is served better right from the baking dish. If you have any leftovers, store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container so you may eat them within the following few days.

Substitutes:

Try it with goat cheese; it yields a creamy, ideal texture, though the amount of time it takes to cook will depend on how big a block of cheese is.

Try substituting roasted garlic for fresh garlic or adding some fresh oregano or thyme.

Add a protein. The final step can include adding cooked meat; ideal choices include ground chicken, ground beef, or ground turkey.

Try using spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles if you want to cut back on carbs.

Ingredients:

8 ounces pasta of choice.

500 gm cherry tomatoes

8- ounce block of feta cheese

½ cup extra virgin olive oil

¼ teaspoon sea salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

2 garlic cloves minced

¼ cup chopped fresh basil

Method:

Cook the pasta and set it aside.

Preheat the oven to 400°F

In a baking dish suitable for the oven, put the cherry tomatoes. Add salt and pepper, then pour the olive oil on top. Mix everything together thoroughly by tossing.

In the center of the baking dish, surrounded by cherry tomatoes, place the feta block. Flip it over once or twice to evenly distribute the seasoning and oil.

Bake for 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the cherry tomatoes burst and the feta cheese melts.

Take it out of the oven.

The cooked tomatoes and feta should then be combined right away with the garlic and basil leaves.

Now add the cooked pasta to the baking dish and give it a good mix.

Garnish it with fresh basil and serve warm.
